Be sure to check your ÄÛÌïÑо¿Ôº¹ÙÍø email regularly starting in May—your advisor will be sending important updates and next steps there.

New Student Academic Advising and Course Registration Process

  • Complete your New Student Orientation Homework

    Before you attend Orientation, you must complete the following:

    • (due by June 27): This required survey is a key part of the Orientation Checklist for all incoming students. Your responses help advisors register you for appropriate Fall 2025 courses based on your academic interests, goals, and course preferences. If you do not complete the survey by the deadline, advisors will still create a schedule for you—but you will miss the opportunity to share updated goals, course preferences, and other important input that help ensure your schedule reflects your interests.
      • After you submit your Survey, You will receive your "Schedule your Appointment" email. Check your BU email regularly for the link to schedule this appointment.
    • : Required only if your major/minor/program requires Calculus I and you do not have credit for MATH 224 & 225. If applicable, enroll in the free online summer Calculus Workshop.
    • Chemistry Readiness Assessment: Required only if your major/minor/program requires CHEM 104 or 107 and you do not have credit for CHEM 104 or 107.  If applicable, enroll in the free online summer Chemistry Workshop. Students who do not pass the Readiness Assessment may enroll in CHEM 104 or 107, but they are also required to enroll in the 1-credit CHEM 103: Chemistry ACTIVE Workshop alongside CHEM 104 or 107.
    • Explore Options & Tell Us ÄÛÌïÑо¿Ôº¹ÙÍø Your Interests: In the Advising and Registration Survey, you’ll be asked to share more about what you’re curious about or excited to study—even if you’re undecided! You’ll also be asked to:
      • - You'll be asked to list your top 8–10 choices in the Advising and Registration Survey.
      • - You’ll also be asked to rank your top seminar course preferences in the same survey.
      • - ÄÛÌïÑо¿Ôº¹ÙÍø offers courses in 16 different languages! This spreadsheet outlines the different options for Fall 2025.

    Before you meet with an academic advisor, you must complete the following:

    • : This part of the Orientation Checklist is required for all students. The sooner you complete your survey, the sooner you can make your Advising & Registration Appointment. General Advising appointments for Transfer students are June 2 - June 20, and faculty advising appointments take place June 9-13. Do not delay!

  • Schedule an Appointment with your Advisor

    You will receive a "Schedule your Appointment" email after you submit your Advising & Registration Survey. Check your BU email regularly for the link to schedule this appointment.

Step 4:

First-Years

Transfers

  • Attend your Academic Advising Appointment
    • The virtual appointment will take place 1-6 business days after your Orientation session. Your advisor will:
      • Review your fall 2025 schedule
      • Discuss your academic goals and next steps
      • Answer any questions about fall 2025 course planning
    • You will receive a "Schedule your Appointment" at the end of your Orientation session. Check your BU email regularly for the link to schedule this appointment.
    • Students who do not schedule / do not attend their advising appointment are at risk of being dropped from fall 2025 classes.

  • Prepare for Move-In!

    You have completed the Academic Advising portion of your Orientation - great work!! Now, continue to the next step to explore additional resources that will support your transition to ÄÛÌïÑо¿Ôº¹ÙÍø.

  • Post - June 20th 

    Transfer students who missed the June 16 - 20 registration period should contact Harpur Advising to schedule their appointment before August 1.
